Current Grade 16/20 Well laid out, but please take the time to learn to embed your presentations. I’m not entirely clear why you have changed magazines between contents, doubles etc. Ideally you should be considering ideas like continuity through the magazine. Also, for contents pages, for some reason, your slides are a little hard to read. Easy to fix? The content of your work on covers is fine, but no to the youtube clip unless you are going to take the opportunity to do a voice over. If so, make sure that the clarity of image leaves it legible. Good work on target audience, thoughtful. Level 4 on that area. Focus group is good. Mock ups are good, but your contents page doesn’t work. Back to the drawing board to some extent. Good first draft of magazine cover, let’s do some work on getting it to look amazing. I have some ideas. Needs a little titivating but level 4.
Cover: Your front cover is right at the top of level 3, but could be level 4. I would still like to see you manipulate that image a little more. I think you could stand to increase the contrast or play with the shadows. The sell lines need to be rearranged to fit the blank spaces more carefully and the outer glow of the masthead may need some attention. Also, I am not convinced by the free poster inside, I’d get rid of it.
Contents: Top of level 3, but again potentially better. Square off the poster and turn it into a third photograph to span the top of the page. Shrink your double page spread so that it fits across one column space. Break your contents into two columns and add a few more elements, but keep the same formatting throughout. Ideally, have the text line up with the P of Pg. Sounds like a lot, but shouldn’t take ages.
Double Page spread: Top of level 3, but could easily be better. The image is good, but a little bit of work would take it up to excellent. I would actually consider switching the cover image with the double page image, but we can discuss that on the Friday lesson. The album cover is not great and it may be worth getting rid of it. The layout and design of the page is sound but you REALLY need to proof read as the middle column makes no sense.
Research and planning: 16 The research into front covers is very difficult to read but the content of the research into codes and conventions is excellent. Excellent research into target audience. Good evidence of drafting with the mock ups and early stages of production. Excellent time management and organisation. Level of care is good. Does just enough overall for a low level 4.
Production: 47 The front cover is good. A strong image and good attention to layout and design. A mid level 4. The contents page is less well done. Making the pictures resemble photos is a nice touch, but design features like the unbroken blue lines are not very effective. High end of level 3. The photography on the double page is very effective, but the attention to spacing on the text in the article and the overall attention to page design is at the top end of proficient. On balance, the cover does not do quite enough to edge the whole thing into the bottom of level 4.
Evaluation: 12 High level proficient discussion of progression from preliminary task to main task. Proficient discussion of institutions. Low proficient discussion of audience. Limited/basic discussion of technology, perhaps due to a faulty slide. Basic discussion of representation. Proficient ability to communicate. Despite the missing elements, does just enough to edge into the bottom of level 3.
